Your project requires Temporary Erosion Control Products
General Description
Based on your inputs, your project requires temporary erosion control products. These materials have a service life of 6 months to 5 years depending on the fibers in the blanket. For example, tacked hay, light straw blankets with top netting, and light jute blankets degrade in 6 months or less. On the other hand, straw/coconut mixes, or light excelsior blankets can last up to 18 months. Still others like coconut blankets can last up to 5 years.
The point is that all of these materials degrade . In the early stages of vegetation growth, the drainage channel is protected by the erosion control blanket. In some finite period of time, the lining degrades and the vegetation ultimately carries the hydraulic stresses.
It is important to remember that these blankets will degrade in time. You cannot rely on their long term resistance. All they do is promote vegetation establishment and protect the channel from erosion in the short term.
