Tips for a Successful Class

If you have never taken an online course, there are a number of things you can do to ensure the best possible experience.

Have a reliable computer and Internet connection.

Your courses will be delivered in a downloadable MPEG-4 format captured in high definition (HD), and you'll experience the same instruction and lectures as our on-campus students. It's vital that you have a computer and Internet connection you can count on.

Stay in touch with your instructor.

Our instructors are as dedicated to their online students as they are to students attending on site. Make sure to interact with your instructor early and often to make sure he or she understands your needs and is fully aware of how you are progressing through the course.

Understand the proctored exam process.

Taking exams as an online student at Purdue is a fairly simple process. Still, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the process as early as possible, as well as make sure you've identified an exam proctor and a suitable testing site.

Be consistent with your workspace.

Online education is convenient. Even though you'll complete your course work from a distance, it can be helpful if you establish a space where you'll do your work and stay consistent to avoid distractions.   

Be organized with your Purdue accounts.

After enrolling you'll create several Purdue accounts, such as myPurdue and Brightspace. It's essential you stay organized with these accounts, access them often, and have a system in place so important log-in information isn't lost or forgotten.

Check your exam schedules early.

Exams for your classes will be offered on a set schedule. You'll want to record the exam dates on your calendar at the beginning of your course to make sure you don't have any conflicts. As exam dates are provided to our office, they will be posted to the exam schedule.

Ask questions.

We're here to provide you with all the support and information you need. No matter what question you may have, whether it's prior to enrolling or while you're working through your course, we encourage you to be proactive about getting the answers you need.
