CHASSIS

The chassis team is responsible for integrating the driver and all other subsystems into the car. The chassis team designs and manufactures the frame of the car to connect all other components of the car, making sure their designs are not comprised in the process. The frame is made of welded 4130 chromoly steel and weighs roughly 60 pounds. The frame is designed to be as light as possible while maintaining high torsional rigidity to create a stable platform for the suspension and drivetrain at speed. The chassis and cockpit must be made to fit drivers of all sizes while taking into account their safety should an impact occur. This means components like the pedals and headrest must be made to be adjustable. The chassis team must consider everything from vehicle dynamics to driver comfort when designing and building the frame of the car.
