Sue H. Abreu, M.D., J.D., FACNM, is an engineer, nuclear medicine physician and attorney. She currently serves as an administrative judge (technical) for the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Panel at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Abreu earned a degree in interdisciplinary engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering from Purdue University. As a Purdue student, she was a member of Army ROTC, Mortar Board, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Gamma Tau, Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi and the Society of Women Engineers. She continued her education at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where she earned her medical degree before specializing in nuclear medicine.

A retired colonel, Abreu served in multiple positions during her 24-year U.S. Army career, including as nuclear medicine consultant to the Army surgeon general. Following her Army retirement, she worked as a medical and management consultant with a focus on nuclear medicine accreditation and product development.

Abreu is a Fellow of the American College of Nuclear Medicine and received its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. Purdue honored her as an Outstanding Interdisciplinary Engineer in 2001, inducted her into the Tri-Service ROTC Hall of Fame in 2004, named her a Distinguished Engineering Alumna in 2020 and awarded her the Purdue Engineering Alumni Association Alumni Loyalty Award in 2023.

Since graduating from Purdue in 1978, Abreu has returned annually to speak with students in the Women in Engineering Seminar and at other Women in Engineering events. She has co-authored numerous medical publications, frequently speaks at nuclear medicine conferences and holds licenses in both medicine and law.
