COLIBLAB

COLIBLAB: The CoLiberation Lab collaborates with the VIP program to research, design, produce, and test novel technologies from disabled-led perspectives.

Mentors:

Description:

The CoLiberation Lab is Rua M. Williams’s research lab at Purdue University. Students in the CoLiberation Lab work on research projects which explore technologies for Disabled-led action and transformation. Projects in the CoLiberation Lab leverage theory, methods, and practice from multiple disciplines, for example: Science & Technology Studies, Disability Studies, Human-Computer Interaction, Design, and Media Studies. Example projects include: “Eyedle Gaze” - a recreational eye-tracking controlled game to support onboarding and skill development for disabled people recently exposed to eye tracking interfaces; “Graphic Attacc” – an on-device post-process filter to protect photosensitive technology users from graphics-based strobing attacks; “Cyborg Imaginaries” – an exhibit of mixed physical and digital media installations illustrating better futures in adaptive and assistive technology.

Relevant Technologies:

  • Digital Prototyping
  • Graphics Programming
  • Virtual Reality

Pre-requisite knowledge/skills:

These projects support students from every discipline on campus. However, teams must include a sufficient number of students either skilled in or willing to learn the relevant digital prototyping, video game programming, or physical prototyping skills. The projects also support roles in instructional design, anthropology, sociology, health sciences, human and family services, and more.
