Purdue University has launched an ambitious effort to develop and operate a world-class Manufacturing & Materials Research Lab (MMRL). Although recently established, the lab has already made significant progress across several advanced manufacturing technologies.

Among these capabilities, additive manufacturing (AM) has quickly emerged as a major focus area. The combination of MMRL’s growing AM infrastructure and Purdue’s extensive faculty and student expertise has led to the creation of a new industry-focused center:

PCAM - Purdue Center for Critical Additive Alloys and Metal Manufacturing Offers

PCAM is designed to support industry partners by developing member-selected, industry-relevant research projects conducted within the Purdue Engineering ecosystem.

What PCAM Offers

  • Industry-Driven Research: Projects are selected in collaboration with member organizations to address real manufacturing challenges.
  • Faculty Leadership: Research is guided by leading Purdue Engineering faculty with deep expertise in advanced manufacturing.
  • Graduate Student Innovation: Projects are primarily executed by Purdue graduate students, many of whom are preparing for careers in industry.
  • Advanced Research Infrastructure: Access to Purdue’s extensive portfolio of cutting-edge manufacturing, testing, and materials characterization equipment, enabling comprehensive research capabilities rarely found in a single environment.Purdue University has launched an ambitious effort to develop and operate a world-class Manufacturing & Materials Research Lab (MMRL). Visiting the MMRL

The Purdue University Airport (LAF) offers convenient round-trip flights from West Lafayette to Chicago with connections worldwide. Visitors can also travel through Indianapolis International Airport (IND), served by most major airlines, or Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), located about 140 miles north of Lafayette-West Lafayette, approximately a three-hour drive to Purdue.

Ground transportation options make travel to and around Purdue convenient. Visitors will find several rental car agencies in the Lafayette-West Lafayette area, as well as at Indianapolis International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Ride-sharing services, taxis, and shuttle options are also available to help facilitate travel between airports, hotels, and campus.

If you are traveling through Indianapolis International Airport, there are multiple lodging options available nearby for convenience. Visitors may also choose accommodations close to Purdue’s Indianapolis campus or near the MMRL Lab at 16 Tech, providing easy access depending on your travel plans.

West Lafayette and the surrounding Lafayette area offer a wide range of lodging options, from well-known hotel chains to locally owned accommodations. Many are located near Purdue’s campus and the MMRL, making them a convenient choice for visitors attending meetings, events, or research activities.
