MMRL Education Launches Industrial Short Courses to Advance Manufacturing Innovation
The Manufacturing and Materials Research Laboratory (MMRL) has successfully launched its first MMRL Short Course, marking a new chapter in industrial education and technology transition. The inaugural program, titled “Application and Implementation of Additive Manufacturing for Production,” addressed the growing industrial need to demystify additive manufacturing and enable its practical use in production environments.

Hosted at MMRL’s Indy Lab at 16Tech in Indianapolis, the course offered participants an intensive, hands-on experience. Industry professionals engaged in modules covering Powder Handling and Safety, Metal Powders, Additive Manufacturing Processes, Implementation in Production, and Industrial Case Studies.
Designed to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the program attracted both experienced practitioners and companies exploring how to integrate new technologies. Beyond technical training, participants gained valuable opportunities to exchange experiences, explore fresh ideas, and develop solutions through real-world case discussions. MMRL Education (MMRL Edu) represents the laboratory’s commitment to innovation, workforce development, and industry engagement.
Building on this inaugural success, MMRL Edu will expand its portfolio of short courses, serving as a leading resource to advance manufacturing knowledge and practice across small, medium, and large enterprises.
Purdue’s MMRL is proud to lead this effort, connecting cutting-edge research with industrial implementation to strengthen U.S. manufacturing resilience.
