Introducing Bernard J. Nartey, Program Specialist at the Shah Family Global Innovation Lab

Bernard J. Nartey is a distinguished Program Specialist at the Shah Family Global Innovation Lab within Purdue Global Engineering Programs & Partnerships. A Black African hailing from Ghana, Bernard currently resides in Indiana, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise in civil engineering and project management.

Educationally, Bernard holds a BSc (Hons) degree in civil engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Ghana, a Master of Science Degree in project management from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and a Master of Science degree in construction management technology from the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, West Lafayette.

Bernard is a licensed professional engineer (PE #12144751) and a project management professional (PMP #2931557) certified by the ASCE and the PMI, showcasing his commitment to excellence in the field.

With over 30 years of professional experience, Bernard has played pivotal roles in various program and project management capacities across Ghana, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. His expertise spans portfolio, program, and project management, business development, vendor procurement management, contract administration, and construction supervision. Bernard has been instrumental in diverse projects, including rural access roads, schools, railway stations, juvenile detention centers, sports stadia, clinics, and water and wastewater systems.

Some career highlights include serving as the INDOT Construction Project Manager on the I-65 Interchange Improvements near

 Whitestown, Indiana, from 2021 to 2023, and founding Zaathi Engineers & Project Managers in 2013. He has also excelled in academia as a Civil Engineering Lecturer/Examiner at Walter Sisulu University, South Africa, from 2012 to 2016.

In his current role, Bernard aims to re-strategize the Shah Family Global Innovation Lab program to align with post-COVID global trends, challenges, risks, and opportunities. Leveraging his extensive international development and project management knowledge, he seeks to enhance the management of the Shah Lab program.

Outside his professional pursuits, Bernard dedicates his spare time to coaching and mentoring candidates preparing for engineering and project management professional certification exams. He is also an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying live events such as College Basketball, NBA playoffs, and World Cup Soccer Tournaments.
