PRECISE - Purdue Research & Education Center for Information Systems in Engineering
Our research at the interfaces of engineering and information sciences for next generation product realization and bioinformatics systems. Increased complexity of products has resulted in a large amount of 3D data. Protein researchers have also generated a large amount of 3D structures. It is necessary to develop methodologies and algorithms to search and make sense of 3D knowledge to make effective use of it. Major areas of exploration includes (1) 3D search for large repositories of engineering parts and protein structures, (2) reverse engineering of 3D parts for effective manufacturing design interaction, and (3) configuration and customization in product development. This research in customization and configuration will have a significant impact on the manufacturing supply chain.
