Agricultural Safety and Health

Various delivery techniques are used to address the safety education needs of rural Indiana residents. Extension publications have been made available along with development of one of the largest rural health and safety audio-visual libraries in the country. Major farm shows are utilized to demonstrate and disseminate information on safe agricultural work practices. In order to reduce the impact of a farm-related accidents, training activities have been carried out across the state with emergency rescue and medical personnel. Training materials have been developed and instructor workshops held to multiply the efforts of the Purdue program. Topics include extrication from farm machinery, entrapments in flowing grain, silo fires, and agricultural chemical accidents. Presently, approximately 40 Purdue affiliated instructors are providing state-wide instruction.
