By Grad Students, For Grad Students Workshop Series

This workshop series will feature topics proposed and presented by College of Engineering graduate students. If you and/or your fellow graduate students have discussed the need for some relevant information to improve some aspect of graduate student life on campus, you can propose, develop, and present a workshop on the topic. Maybe you want to share a professional development skill you learned at a conference or pass along some knowledge you wish you had had as a new graduate student. Workshops can last from 45 to 90 minutes and involve one or more speakers. The sessions can be scheduled during fall, spring, or summer semesters.

The Office of Graduate Education will provide the logistical support for your workshop:

  • Room reservations
  • Flyer creation and electronic distribution
  • Registration website
  • Suggestions for workshop agenda and content
  • Optional guided practice

Why You Should Propose a Workshop

  • To share useful information with other engineering graduate students
  • To experience organizing and presenting information for a longer duration than a typical conference presentation
  • To gain experience for your teaching portfolio and resume or CV

How to Submit Proposals

  • Write a short (up to 250 words) description of your proposal, indicating
    • The motivation for your choice of particular topic
    • A preliminary agenda for the workshop
    • Take-away message for the audience
