The Global Engineering Learning Portfolio

The Global Engineering Learning Portfolio is a product of the Global Engineering Program. It provides opportunities to all engineering students of Purdue through global educational initiatives that empower them to become leaders of engineering discovery, engagement and learning.

The Global Engineering Learning Portfolio is made up of opportunities in the following areas:

Study Abroad

Global Service Learning

Global Service Learning

  • Global Design Teams (GDT) - students from multiple disciplines address real-world problems over one academic semester. Receive academic credit, work with host country partners then travel to deliver the project in person.
  • International EPICS - partners Global Design Team and EPICS in global projects such as Habitat for Humanity efforts in Haiti, water resource management, assistive technologies and more.
  • Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW)non-profit, humanitarian, student organizations help improve quality of life through implementation of sustainable engineering projects with hands-on experience of professional engineers.

Work Abroad

Global Research

  • SURF Abroad - Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships in engineering, science and technology: an intensive research experience in a global environment.
  • Research Projects Abroad - There are many opportunities for individually designed programs in a number of laboratories throughout the world. Come into the GEP office to investigate opportunities in your preferred location or for your specific area of professional interest.

Global Awareness at Home

  • Global Minor - a comprehensive program integrating on-campus and international experiences: focus on a specific, non-native country or geographical regio
  • Sharing Cultures (student club) - Multicultural student organization which brings together culturally distinct 1st year students in flexible and fun ways
  • Introduction to Global Engineering (Engr 103) - Expands understanding of industry demand for globally competent engineers, increases appreciation and understanding of the history, culture and people of various regions. Enhances global competence and awareness.
  • Globalization and Engineering (ENE 595) - Guest speakers address globalization and its impact on the engineering profession and on engineering intensive industries and businesses. Open to all in the Purdue community who are interested in attending as space permits.
