The Scientist of the Year award is given annually to a member of the electronic imaging community who has demonstrated excellence and commanded the respect of his/her peers by making significant and substantial contributions to the field of electronic imaging via research, publications and service. Delp was cited for his contributions to multimedia security and image and video compression.

“I am very happy to win this award,” Delp says. “I am most proud of the fact that two other Purdue faculty have won this award. No other university has achieved this. This indicates to me the depth of our research program in image processing and analysis at Purdue. We have a truly world-class program here.”

Previous Purdue ECE winners are Jan Allebach, the Hewlett-Packard Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering (2004), and Charles Bouman, the Showalter Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering (2014).
