Hyderabad: KLH Hyderabad campus of KL Deemed to be University recently hosted the EPICS Project Expo and Ideathon supported by AIM, NITI Aayog, Government of India, a dynamic event featuring over 120 innovative projects. These projects, ingeniously designed by around 800 students, presented tangible engineering solutions addressing real-world societal challenges. Working in groups, the students developed these projects as part of their social immersive internship under the EPICS initiative. In collaboration with Purdue University, USA, EPICS initiative is a blend of academic excellence with social responsibility.

EPICS, short for Engineering Projects in Community Service, is a distinctive program that integrates engineering education with community service. This initiative empowers students to apply their technical knowledge to real-world problems, focusing on designing and implementing solutions that benefit local communities. The program not only hones students’ engineering skills but also cultivates a sense of social awareness and responsibility, encouraging them to become empathetic and innovative problem solvers.

These projects ranged across various fields, addressing real-world challenges and offering tangible solutions that have the potential to make a significant impact in society. Among the diverse array of projects presented were notable innovations such as the “Automated Water Quality Monitoring System,” “Smart Traffic Management Solutions,” “Renewable Energy Harvesting Devices,” “Waste Management and Recycling Technologies,” and “Healthcare Accessibility Tools.” Each project reflected the students’ ability to identify community needs and address them with practical, sustainable solutions.

The successful completion of these projects is a clear indicator of the program’s effectiveness in instilling a sense of social responsibility, innovation, and problem-solving skills among students.
