Emerson Now Accepting Applications for 2024-2025 Discrete Automation Scholarship
Two academic merit award winners will receive financial support and grants for collegiate STEM research and educational programs.
Emerson is inviting U.S. college students pursuing degrees in science, technology and engineering fields to apply for its 2024-2025 Discrete Automation Scholarship. Every year the merit-based award recognizes two ambitious problem solvers with a $5,000 scholarship each, eligibility for an Emerson internship and $1,000 research grants to enhance their schools' engineering programs. Applicants may apply<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.emerson.com%2Fen-us%2Fautomation%2Findustrial-factory-automation%2Fthe-emerson-discrete-automation-scholarship-program&data=05%7C02%7Cengr-boilerbuzz-list%40ecn.purdue.edu%7C78e8542978164b49ce2f08dc6b83082b%7C4130bd397c53419cb1e58758d6d63f21%7C0%7C0%7C638503457889021300%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=3MO3OkOnK7tlbS3VxcW%2Fo60M4wYj1wkZQv5U1SZuctw%3D&reserved=0> through July 31,2024.
Emerson's scholarship rewards individuals pursuing STEM professions in fields such as engineering, instrumentation, systems, and automation that are critical to discrete automation applications. The financial support and recognition provided by the scholarship helps students with great potential emerge as leaders ready to shape their field.
"Empowering the next generation of STEM professionals is not just a commitment, but a mission that Emerson holds at its core," said Andy Duffy, vice president of sales for Emerson's discrete automation business and chairman of the board of the Valve Manufacturers Association of America. "Our Discrete Automation Scholarship symbolizes our dedication to nurturing talented innovators who are poised to lead in technology and engineering fields."
In addition to sponsoring the scholarship program for over a decade, Emerson has also sponsored ground-breaking, student-led projects, and "We Love STEM" events that have reached thousands of students globally.
Only U.S. citizens and legal U.S. residents may apply. Eligible applicants will have completed at least the first year of a bachelor's degree program or are enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited U.S. educational institution of higher learning at the time of application.

MENTAL HEALTH MINUTE
Perfectionism & Anxiety
Perfectionism is not the same thing as striving to be your best. Perfectionism is not about healthy achievement and growth. Perfectionism is the belief that if we live perfect, look perfect, and act perfect, we can minimize or avoid the pain of blame, judgment, and shame.
Perfection is a shield. Perfectionism is a twenty-ton shield that we lug around thinking it will protect us when, in fact, it is the thing that is really preventing us from taking flight. Perfectionism at its worst can lead us to anxiety and even depression as we take upon ourselves the exhausting journey of being perfect when perfection is so rarely attainable.
Perfectionism is not self-improvement. Perfectionism is, at its core, about trying to earn approval and acceptance. Most perfectionists were raised being praised for achievement and performance (grades, manners, rule-following, people-pleasing, appearance, sports). Somewhere along the way, we adopt this dangerous and debilitating belief system: I am what I accomplish and how well I accomplish it. I. Must. Perform. Perfect.
Too often, anxiety disorders can be the result as worrisome, anxious thoughts repeatedly invade our brains when we do not live up to the impossible standards of perfectionism.
Perfectionism is other-focused-What will they think?
Healthy striving is self-focused - How can I improve?
With which do you identify?
