InnovateHer 2024
March 2 and 3
8:00 am Saturday to 6:45 pm Sunday
Interested in solving women's issues?
Want to learn how to code? All experience levels welcomed.
InnovateHer, a 36-hour hackathon celebrating marginalized gender and racial identities in technology is taking place on March 2nd and 3rd at Stewart Center! It is open to everyone - yes, men as well - in all stages of their coding journey. Organized by the Purdue Student Government in collaboration with 7 Purdue student organizations devoted to advancing women in STEM - Girls Who Code College Loops, Society of Woman Engineers (SWE), Women in Technology (WiT), Phi Sigma Rho, Computer Science Women's Network (CSWN), Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), and Purdue Women in Science Program (WISP), InnovateHer's mission is to educate all on the beauty and importance of diversity and inclusion in STEM.
If you have no coding experience, don't worry! We will be organizing a series of technical workshops to familiarize you with all you will need to know to successfully complete your InnovateHer projects. But it's not all just code, code, code - we will also conduct workshops discussing the issue of diversity and inclusion in technology, providing a look into the struggles women and other marginalized communities face in male-dominated spaces like STEM, making InnovateHer a holistic experience benefiting any and all participating.
InnovateHer is sponsored by Wolfram Language and Wabash amongst others, and will also host officials from Meta, Oculus, Wal-Mart, and Microsoft in a series of panels and talks, which will be an immersive learning experience for all! Be prepared for more than just learning, though, fun is definitely included, with stargazing and s'mores breaks!

Moonshot Pitch Competition
What do PayPal, Adranos, Nike, Socio, Patagonia, and Facebook all have in common? They all started from an IDEA!
Great ideas can come from all walks of life. Some can turn into multibillion-dollar tech businesses while others may be a lifestyle business or a local non-profit that fills a need in the community.
Purdue Innovates is proud to present the Moonshot Pitch Competition this Spring. I've attached a digital flyer and info below on the idea pitch competition that is open to ALL Purdue University students. Undergrads and Graduate students are welcome to submit their ideas for this semi-annual challenge. Our team will be posting more info across social media and around campus over the next few days and would love if you helped spread the word and encourage any of your fellow students and acquaintances across campus to participate.
Moonshot Pitch Challenge<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurdueinnovates.org%2Fincubator%2Fmoonshot-pitch-challenge%2F&data=05%7C02%7Cengr-boilerbuzz-list%40ecn.purdue.edu%7C0f6c6f1d5c144173fcf308dc2f305ace%7C4130bd397c53419cb1e58758d6d63f21%7C0%7C0%7C638437131982862148%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=XYJRdMsAHSfAxN5p3ADhCTWKsFyOJ6jSNYhdmi9DsuU%3D&reserved=0> is an ideation-focused pitch challenge that asks students to think big - beyond the classroom - and pitch an idea that solves a real-world problem in 2 minutes of less!
Any idea can be submitted for the Challenge! Student teams will have to submit a video describing their idea and decide which category their idea falls into. There are 3 categories to choose from:
* EARTH (Social Ideas)
* ORBIT (Business Ideas)
* Moonshot (Dent in the Universe Ideas)
No idea is a bad idea, but only the most thoughtful and well-presented pitches will make it to the finals event. Finalists will compete for a prize pool of $5,500! More info can be found here https://purdueinnovates.org/incubator/moonshot-pitch-challenge/<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurdueinnovates.org%2Fincubator%2Fmoonshot-pitch-challenge%2F&data=05%7C02%7Cengr-boilerbuzz-list%40ecn.purdue.edu%7C0f6c6f1d5c144173fcf308dc2f305ace%7C4130bd397c53419cb1e58758d6d63f21%7C0%7C0%7C638437131982862148%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=XYJRdMsAHSfAxN5p3ADhCTWKsFyOJ6jSNYhdmi9DsuU%3D&reserved=0>

Talk with SETI Scientist Dr. Farah: The Allen Telescope Array
Tuesday, February 20
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Lawson Commons
Come talk with scientist Dr. Wael from the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute! Learn about his work searching for objects in deep space and the history of SETI and radio astronomy. You'll also have a chance to talk to members of Team JARVIS, a student-led team at Purdue developing AR software for spacewalks on NASA's Artemis missions. You'll get to see how observations are run at a radio telescope array, as we remotely connect to the Allen Telescope Array and show you how to observe a signal from a NASA probe millions of miles from Earth. The event will conclude with an open-floor discussion and questions for both Dr. Farah and members of Team JARVIS. Food and refreshments will be provided!
