Purdue University launched its new extension in Indianapolis on July 1, 2024.
The comprehensive urban campus is Purdues portion of the former Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), a 55-year collaboration between Purdue and Indiana University in the states capital city that has now formally ended. Purdue University in Indianapolis creates an innovative, STEM-based collegiate experience by connecting future-ready Purdue students and faculty in Indianapolis to local businesses to accelerate Indianas STEM pipeline and tech ecosystem, fueling impact for central Indiana and the world.
The chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Indiana University " Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) is now the Site Director for Purdue ECE in Indianapolis. Brian King was chair of the IUPUI ECE department for eight years.
Milind Kulkarni, Michael and Katherine Birck Head and Professor of the Purdue Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, said King has a wealth of experience and knowledge about the facilities and personnel in Indy, having served as chair at IUPUI for many years.
He also has collaborated frequently with the Elmore Family School of ECE on various joint programs, said Kulkarni. I cannot think of anyone better suited to helping build bridges between the two campuses as we move to a future of one University operating at two locations.
Purdue in Indianapolis launched on July 1, 2024, at which point IUPUI ceased to exist. The urban campus is part of Purdue University West Lafayette, with multiple locations throughout Indianapolis.
As Site Director, King will play a key leadership role in guiding the development of the ECE program, integrating the program at the urban campus with the one in West Lafayette. He serves as the point of contact in Indy, for both ECE faculty and Purdue in Indianapolis-tenured faculty who have courtesy appointments. King is also the representative in the ECE cabinet for Purdue in Indianapolis faculty.
