Our latest research has made it to the COVER of Nature! We present a groundbreaking invention called HADAR: Heat-Assisted Detection and Ranging. HADAR represents a revolutionary machine perception technique that harnesses the power of infrared imaging, thermal physics, and machine learning to enable sight through darkness as if it were broad daylight. We firmly believe that HADAR's potential for transformative societal impact is on par with that of RADAR, LIDAR, and SONAR. In our study, we establish the information theoretic foundations of thermal perception, demonstrating that pitch darkness carries an equivalent amount of information to broad daylight. Over time, humans have developed a natural preference for the daytime, but with the advent of machine perception like HADAR, we can overcome this long-standing dichotomy and enable superior vision in both day and night environments.
