Brief Bio

I am a Professor in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Purdue University. Before joining Purdue in January 2021, I was an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. I got my PhD from Computer Science Department at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2011 under the supervision of Prof. Jiawei Han. I received NSF Career Award, IBM faculty award, ICDM Tao Li Award, SDM/IBM Early Career Award and UIUC CS Early Career Academic Achievement Alumni Award. I am a University Faculty Scholar at Purdue University. I am a Fellow of IEEE.

Research Interests

I am broadly interested in data and information analysis with a focus on big data analytics. My recent research focus is on natural language processing, AI trustworthiness, knowledge graphs, data and model efficiency, federated learning, fairness and interpretation. I am also interested in the applications of data mining in various domains including biology, healthcare, transportation, education and social science.
