Technical Meeting
Dear Students,
HFES has organized a special event.
Dr. Patricia Davies, the director of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories, will give us a talk and also a lab tour to the facilities dedicated to collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
The main areas include energy utilization and efficiency, quality of life, and sustainability and safety.

3:30 - 4:30: Seminar
4:30 - 5:30: Ray Herrick Lab Tour
Where: MJIS (Martin Jischke Hall of Biomedical Engineering) 1083
Directions: In order to get to the MJIS building, you can take 19 Inner loop bus in front of PMU and get off in front of DLR building. It will take approximately 10 minutes. The bus some every 10 minutes. You can find the map with details on the attachment. After the seminar, we will walk together to the next building, Ray Herrick Laboratories.
Our officers put in a lot of effort to organize this tour. Please support us by participating the event. I hope to see you!! If you are interest in attending the event, please RSVP to me (kim731@purdue) by next Wednesday. This will help to organize the seminar.
For IE students: This will count as attending IE 697 seminar. I have spoken with Dr. Wan and you can either choose to attend this event or the other seminar held on the same day.

HFES student chapter will he holding a technical meeting on Thursday, Nov 7th 2013. The meeting will be held from 4:30-5:30 in GRIS 280.
We have a guest speaker, April Savoy, a Purdue alumni from IE, coming to talk about Transferability of Human Computer Interaction Skills!!
She has worked in industry and recently made the transition to academia.
We will be serving pizza. Look forward to seeing you there!!

Dr. April Savoy
She is an assistant professor and director of informatics at Indiana University East.
In industry, April was a program manager and research associate, where she focused on the design and evaluation of user interfaces.
Dr. Savoy received her doctorate degree from Purdue University in industrial engineering; master's degree from Purdue University in computer science; and bachelor's degree from Xavier University of
Louisiana in computer science.
Dr. Savoy is working to create a research program centered on Human-Centered Computing and Big Data in her Informatics department.
Her research approach is uniquely characterized as user-centered, information-focused, and technically-founded.

Title: History of Human Factors and Ergonomics at Purdue
Abstract:
As part of the 20th anniversary of the HFES Purdue Student Chapter, we offer an overview of the history of Human Factors and Ergonomics at Purdue University. It starts from the early in the 20th century with Frank and Lillian Gilbreth and involves both the School of Industrial Engineering and the Department of Psychological Sciences.
We will introduce research starting from time-and-motion analysis and show how at Purdue has developed to the present. We will also describe the history of our chapter, including its founding, activities, awards, and outstanding alumni.

Picnic
Dear HFES members,
HFES picnic was held on Thursday, September 19th @ 5:00pm @ Squirrel Park along with Aviation Tech.
Free food (potbelly sandwiches, snacks and cookies) and refreshments were provided.
The picnic lasted for an hour-and-a-half or so. We had some exciting games for interaction purposes.

Dear HFES members,
Welcome to the new semester. This one is particularly exciting for HFES as it is our 20th anniversary. The beginning of the semester marks the time for our call out meeting, at which graduate and undergraduates are all welcome.
At this year's call out meeting you will become acquainted with not only Human Factors and Ergonomics society and the Purdue Student Chapter, but will also be introduced to several human factors related labs by faculty and graduate students.
This is a chance for you to learn of opportunities available to you at Purdue.
This is also a chance for members to meet the new executive board, professors, other members, and have some fun and free food.
