What Was New in Older Macintosh Versions

970123 and Later Versions

Note that beginning 1997, the notes about the changes will be on a page which also gives the latest notes for the Windows version since many of the changes are now the same for both.

961016 Version

This version includes a fix for the problem which caused MultiSpec to crash or freeze sometimes when one displayed an 8-bit color image on a monitor which is set for thousands or millions of colors. This problem was noted in the notes for the 9.12.96 version. If anyone continues to have problems with this please let us know. Also this version includes a fix for the problem which caused the screen not to be updated behind the portion of the image which would be behind a floating window such as the control strip when one used the hand scroll capability.

960912 Version

This version contains a fix so that one can change the default name given for class and field names. This version also adds the closed hand cursor when one holds the option key down with the cursor over the image and clicks the mouse button down to scroll the image. NOTE: A problem has been noted on our new PPC8500/180 (with PPC604e) system in which MultiSpec will crash the system when the monitor is set for thousands or millions of colors and one displays a thematic image or a multispectral image with 8 bits of color. If anyone else notices this please let us know.

960730 Version

This version contains a fix for the "Could not Find ThreadsLib" message. Send me an email message if anyone still gets this message.

960726 Version

This version contains several fixes and changes. A new capability has been added to the Feature Extraction Processor called a preprocessing step. This step uses a projection pursuit algorithm to reduce the dimensionality of the data by grouping adjacent channels together. This is still very much a research tool; I will write up a description of the options in this dialog box. Changes were made in the behavior of some items in the Display Image dialog boxes and in the way that the min-max values are handled in the Selection Graphs. One can now hold the option key down while moving the thumb in the scroll bar to move the image 'live'. Also bugs were fixed in the List Image Description and Selection Graph capabilities.

960318 Version

This version contains fixes in the Feature Selection and Cluster processors and changes in the way that ill-conditioned covariance matrices are 'caught'. Also a change was made so that files could be saved when run under a secure environment provided by the Mac Administrator application. This version also contains many changes in the code so that it can be used for both the Macintosh and Windows versions. (Hopefully the bugs caused by these changes are few!)

Other Comments

The fastest Macintosh that we have tested MultiSpec on is a PowerMac 8500/180. To get an idea of how things have changed since 1988 a 'standard' classification that we ran then on a Mac II took 3360 seconds. The 8500/180 can do it in 12 seconds.

See Latest MultiSpec Notes for a complete description of new features that have been implemented and problems which have been fixed in the last several months.
