committees

BMES has four different committees.
Each committee provides different events for the BME students.

Professional Development

Focused on the professional betterment of our undergraduates, this committee hosts various technical workshops with a focus on CAD and coding software. Also, this committee bridges the gap between students and industry by organizing recruiting and informational sessions in which undergraduates can learn more about how to apply their BME degree to industry opportunities.

Programming

BMES organizes social, mindfulness, and external events open to all BME students to foster a sense of community and collaboration within our school. Due to the smaller student body size of our school, we can connect students through these organized events. A primary goal for the future is to collaborate with other student organizations to further expand BME students’ involvement on campus and increase the interdisciplinary opportunities for our undergraduates.

Outreach

This committee focuses on connecting students with volunteering experiences in the greater West Lafayette/Lafayette community surrounding Purdue’s campus. We are specifically in the process of establishing various annual events in which a group of BMES members will visit local elementary and high schools to present about Purdue’s BME program, and more generally the opportunities that an engineering degree provides. Our goal is to bring prospective students to Purdue’s campus and provide access to activities such as a case competition and BME department tours.

Mentorship

The mentorship program is used to benefit the sophomore class and provide them with resources for various future career paths. Topics of discussion include Research, Medical and Graduate School, and careers in Industry. Additionally, the Mentorship Program provides undergraduates with a space to network amongst themselves.
