Our People

Advisory Board

Our advisory board includes researchers and practitioners with the experience to support our research and education plan.  Our research advisory board consists of:

  • Dr. Brent Jesiek, Professor of Engineering Education, Purdue University
    • Dr. Jesiek serves as chair of the graduate program in the School of Engineering Education and serves as a co-editor for the Online Journal for Global Engineering Education.  His research portfolio includes studies focused on global competency and boundary spanning in engineering practice, perceptions of ethics and social responsibility among undergraduate engineering students, and the history of electrical and computer engineering education.  For this research project, Dr. Jesiek provides expertise in implementing the global engineering competency framework, which he developed.
  • Dr. Sigrid Berka, Executive Director of the International Engineering Program, University of Rhode Island
    • Dr. Berka is Professor of German, who also directs the German and Chinese International Engineering Programs. Dr. Berka is responsible for building academic programs with exchange partners abroad, internship placements for IEP’s dual degree students, corporate relations, and fundraising for the IEP.  She also serves on the Provost's Global Education Steering Committee.  For this research project, Dr. Berka brings experience coordinating global engineering programs and a strong network within the international engineering education community.
  • Dr. Mary Besterfield-Sacre, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of the Engineering Education Research Center, University of Pittsburgh
    • Dr. Besterfield-Sacre's research area involves examining engineering education issues through the eyes of assessment.  The work primarily uses quantitative approaches and statistical modeling, as well as mixed methods, to study the impact of curricular innovations/pedagogies and the issues that affect engineering pathways.  For this research project, Dr. Besterfield-Sacre provides expertise in researching global engineering programs.
  • Dr. Kris Acheson-Clair, Director of LEAD, Purdue University
    • Dr. Acheson-Clair directed CILMAR, the Center for Intercultural Learning, Mentorship, Assessment, and Research, from 2016 to 2025, where her research centered on the assessment of intercultural competence and transformative learning as well as strategies for leader and mentor development.  She is currently directing LEAD (the Roger C. Stewart Student Leadership and Professional Development Department) in the Dean of Students' office.  For this research project, Dr. Acheson-Clair provides research expertise in transformative and intercultural learning beyond engineering.
