  • Fundamentals of heat/energy transfer in ultrafast-laser materials interaction

Sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Sandia National Laboratory laser-based micro and nano-manufacturing

This research project is focused on understanding ultrafast laser interaction with matter. Our goals are:

1) To understand mechanisms of ultrafast laser ablation process in various materials, including metals, semi-metals, and dielectric materials

2) To develop and utilize femtosecond time-resolved diagnostic methods to investigate the energy transport processes during ultrafast-laser matter interactions

3) To develop multiscale numerical models, including finite difference, molecular dynamics, and ab-initio models to investigate ultrafast laser induced transport phenomena

Also see  in Nanoscale and Ultrafast Energy Transfer Research.
