2022 Maha Fluid Power Conference
Purdue University, May 17th - 19th
Event description
Purdue’s Maha Fluid Power Research Center invites you to attend the 2022 Maha Fluid Power Conference. The conference will be held at Purdue University from May 17th to 19th. The goal of the conference is to network, exchange ideas, and present the recent research trends in fluid power and related applications. The conference program includes technical presentations, keynote lectures, and a half-day workshop. Social events, such as networking breakfasts, breaks, lunches, and dinners will also be included.
The technical presentations will be given from Purdue speakers as well as external speakers from academia and invited industries. They will cover various topics, such as high efficiency fluid power systems, new hydraulic components, tribology, motion control, electrification, natural gas engines, soft robotics, and autonomous vehicles.
The participants will have the chance to tour the Maha Fluid Power Research Center’s facilities before the dinner on May 18. Participants will have also the chance to tour other Purdue facilities.
The 2022 Maha Fluid Power Conference will have a similar structure of the 2019 CCEFP Summit, which was participated in by approximately 170 conference delegates (more than half from fluid power industry).
Conference Keynote Speakers
The conference will feature two keynote speakers who will present opening lectures on the first two days of proceedings. Maha is honored to welcome Katharina Schmitz and Jürgen Weber, who will speak on May 17th and May 18th, respectively.
Professor Katharina Schmitz graduated in mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University in 2010 with part of her studies taking place at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (USA) and working in Le Havre (France). After graduation, she worked as a scientific staff member and Deputy Chief Engineer at IFAS, Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls of Prof. Murrenhoff. In 2015, Prof. Schmitz graduated as Dr.-Ing. and started working in the industrial sector for a family-owned company, which focuses on special purpose hydraulic solutions and large cylinders. There, she was promoted to Technical Director in 2016. Since March 2018 she is full professor at RWTH Aachen University and Director of ifas, Institute or Fluid Power Drives and Systems. In addition, since January 2020 she is Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University.
Sustainable Construction - New Challenges for Mobile Machinery
Dr.-Ing Jürgen Weber was appointed university professor and chair of Fluid-Mechatronic System Technology at TU Dresden in 2010. Since 2018 he has been the leader of the Institute of Mechatronic Engineering. Professor Weber studied mechanical engineering at TU Dresden, and successfully finished his doctorate in 1991. Until 1997, he was the active senior engineer and the former chair of Hydraulics and Pneumatics. This was followed by an approximately 13-year industrial phase. He was active in various positions at the R&D department of the agricultural and construction machinery manufacturer CNH. Besides his occupation as head of the Department Hydraulics and design manager for mobile and tracked excavators, starting in 2002, he took on responsibility for the hydraulics in construction machinery at CNH worldwide. From 2006 onward, he was the global head of architecture for hydraulic drive and control systems, system integration and advanced development of CNH construction machinery.

Recruiting Event Sponsored by NFPA
NFPA’s University Power Partner Program is a recognition initiative designed to showcase universities that actively participate in all NFPA fluid power educational programs, and Purdue is NFPA’s inaugural Power Partner. This program provides opportunities for NFPA members to connect with students looking to enter the fluid power industry. On May 19th at 1:30 PM, companies are invited to attend a student recruiting event to showcase your company, highlight internships and job opportunities, and network with students. Students enrolled in the College of Engineering, College of Agriculture, and College of Technology are invited. There is no fee to participate in the recruitment event.
The deadline to register for the recruitment event only (forgoing participation in the Maha conference) is May 13. Please register here for the recruiting event only.
Companies and students interested in attending both the Maha Fluid Power Conference and the recruiting event are encouraged to register here for early-bird pricing by April 15. Please select the option of attending the recruiting event on the conference registration site.
About the Maha Fluid Power Research Center
The Maha Fluid Power Research Center is a University Research Center of Purdue University and it is the largest academic lab in the United States focusing on fluid power research. The center has two core faculty members, more than 5 affiliated faculty, 2 permanent staff, and around 30 researchers focusing their research on various fluid power topics such as novel hydraulic components and systems, following original approaches including both computer modeling and real-world experimentation. The center has available 15,000 square feet of lab space, including several test rigs and prototype vehicles.
Conference Information
Registration is free for students and faculty from academic institutions.
The participation fee for industry participants is $450. Please register here before April 15th to secure attendance at this pricing. The registration fee will increase by $100 after April 15th.
Companies interested in sponsoring the event, participating with a booth, and/or distributing promotional material should contact Prof. Lizhi Shang (shangl@purdue.edu) and Prof. Andrea Vacca (avacca@purdue.edu).
