Ab7G Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a program cost?

No. There is no program cost. However, the program is valued at more than $700 per student. This cost is covered by funding from our generous corporate donors, Chevron Corporation, Duke Energy, and community partnerships.

What grades are you recruiting for currently?

Ab7G is open to students in grades 3, 4, and 5.

My child is not a minority. Can they still participate? 

Yes - our programs are open to all students.

What do students need to participate in Ab7G?

For virtual sessions, students will need a reliable internet connection (High-Speed Internet is recommended), access to an electronic device (Desktop, Laptop, Tablet), an area to work, traditional school supplies (notebook, pens, pencils, calculator, etc.), a positive attitude and, a desire to have fun! Materials are provided during in-person sessions.

Is this program virtual or in-person?

Ab7G will be hybrid this academic school year, with half of the program sessions held virtually and half in-person at Purdue University.

When in-person sessions are held, will there also be a virtual option?

There will be an opportunity to connect virtually if you are unable to attend in-person.

How often does Ab7G meet?

Ab7G meets at least eight times each semester in the fall and spring. Most program sessions occur every other week during the semester.

What is the time commitment for students?

Students will participate in eight program sessions. Depending on the grade level, students are asked to spend 1.0 - 1.5 hours each week working on the ALEKS software application.

What is ALEKS?

Students in the Ab7G program use the ALEKS program. ALEKS is an artificially intelligent learning and assessment program used by over 25 million students. ALEKS quickly and accurately determines the student's knowledge of a subject and then helps them work on the topics they are ready to learn.

Does the program address the needs of parents?

Yes. Ab7G offers special sessions for parents on various topics designed to support their student's growth and academic journey. Parents who participate gain beneficial knowledge from faculty, staff, and community leaders.
