Ph.D. Engineering Education '15

Dr. Michele Yatchmeneff is an Unangax (Aleut) woman who grew up in rural Alaska. She earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2005 and an M.S. in Engineering Management in 2009 from the University of Alaska Anchorage where she was an Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP) scholar. Receiving her Ph.D. in Engineering Education from Purdue University, Dr. Yatchmeneff's Ph.D. research focused on motivation and success of pre-college STEM students. She wants to expand on her doctoral work and research STEM education topics such as motivation, Alaska Native education, preparation, and retention. Dr. Yatchmeneff would also like to pursue research in environmental engineering. She has twice published works with the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

Dr. Yatchmeneff is now an associate professor in the Civil Engineering Program at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she teaches courses on economics analysis and operations as well as sections of Introduction to Engineering. She is one of the University's of Alaska Anchorage's first Alaska Native Engineering faculty members. She also serves as the coordinator, research, and faculty advisor for ANSEP's 1500+ students.
