The Distinguished Engineering Alumni/Alumnae Award is presented to men and women who have distinguished themselves in any field in ways that reflect favorably on Purdue University, the engineering profession or society in general. The distinction of DEA has been bestowed upon 540 outstanding individuals.

As president of Global Fleet Management Solutions for Ryder System Inc., Dennis Cooke is at the forefront of global operations for the company’s largest business segment.
He oversees Ryder’s largest truck leasing and rental business segment, providing service for over 14,000 lease customers, 50,000 retail customers and more than 230,000 vehicles in 800 locations. During his executive career, he has made contributions in health care, transportation and supply-chain management.
Purdue has played a significant role in Cooke’s career by teaching him what he describes as the four main lessons he learned in college — problem-solving, learning subjects well enough to make them simple, perseverance and teamwork.
“I have always believed in what I call the four C’s of business leadership: customer focus, collaboration, change and courage,” he says. “I personally try to live these values in my professional career and look for leaders who exhibit these values to be part of my team.”
