VELS:
An interactive Virtual Environment for Learning Surveying
This project enhances traditional surveying instruction methods with an engaging, interactive Virtual Environment for Learning Surveying (VELS) that can be integrated into surveying courses as a preparation, revision and assessment tool. The project uses innovative educational technologies that support students learning and lead to effective instructional approaches in the engineering curriculum.
The VELS supports mathematical representational fluency and includes realistic virtual terrains and surveying instruments that look, operate and produce results comparable to the physical ones.
The VELS is a project funded by the National Science Foundation, Division of Undergraduate Education, award # 1140514

Interactive Steel Sculpture:
Collaborative Research: An Interactive Steel Connection Teaching Tool: A Virtual Structure
This project is about creating a web-based interactive version of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) sculpture to provide an effective learning opportunity and 24-7 access to students and educators in the United States and abroad.
The virtual sculpture shows close up view of each connection with descriptions of how it may be used, potential failure modes, sample calculations and field examples.
