AI-powered Autonomous Driving: Data-driven Methods to Enhance Human Acceptance
Abstract:
Human acceptance is a critical factor in adopting automated driving systems. This presentaion introduces a data-driven control algorithm that uses an LSTM autoencoder to extract latent features from real driving data, which are then clustered into lateral and longitudinal behaviors. These clusters enable autonomous vehicles to mimic human driving styles by generating steering and acceleration profiles tailored to individual behaviors, reducing discomfort such as jerk and excessive accelerations. To further enhance ride quality, a novel evaluation metric is proposed that considers both trajectory accuracy and comfort energy. Vehicle tests, particularly in scenarios prone to ride quality issues, show that the algorithm successfully improves passenger comfort while maintaining human-like driving patterns. These advancements contribute to making autonomous driving systems more personalized, comfortable, and acceptable to users.
