Energy Optimization of Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning system

Energy Optimization of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning System

Primary researcher: Alireza Jafarian? (PHD Thesis)

As a Research Assistant, I conducted research on optimizing energy consumption and increasing the energy efficiency of commersial buildings. Currently, I am immersed in a project dedicated to optimizing the energy consumption of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system within a campus building. This initiative involves the installation of sensors to monitor the system?s performance comprehensively.

Initially, my research involves creating an occupancy model that links CO2 levels with the number of people present in space. This model, along with other data gathered from sensors, will be used in developing a Model Predictive Control (MPC) strategy. This approach is designed to enhance the HVAC system?s energy efficiency by considering various factors, including weather conditions, occupancy rates, and the quality of indoor air. The primary objective is to reduce energy consumption and improve the system?s overall performance. By executing this project, the campus building is expected to achieve greater sustainability and energy savings, leading to cost reductions and beneficial environmental outcomes.
