Our research group is dedicated to advancing the sustainability of energy storage materials and systems by developing innovative, eco-friendly materials and technologies that reduce the environmental impact of batteries. We focus on exploring alternatives to toxic materials, improving recycling/reuse technologies, eco-design battery systems, and extending battery lifecycles to support a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

We leverage our expertise in advanced materials characterization, in-operando diagnostic techniques, and multi-scale, multi-physics modeling to study battery material properties, mechanics, electrochemistry, and their interactions at both the material and system levels. Our research is highly interdisciplinary, drawing from a wide range of disciplines including mechanical/automotive engineering, electrochemistry, chemistry, materials science, and computational science.

We want you!

We are seeking passionate graduate students who pursue an MS thesis and a PhD degree. Undergraduate students are also welcome to join our research group. To inquire about open positions for research, please send CV/resume, transcripts, and a brief statement of interests to Prof. Hosop Shin (shin282@purdue.edu).
