Ashish Ravi Joshi received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 2017 from Savitribai Phule Pune University, India, his master's degree in 2020 in transportation planning and transportation engineering from The Ohio State University, and his PhD in 2025 in transportation engineering, urban planning, and public policy from the University of New Mexico. His research has a core focus on advancing transit equity, accessibility, and safety through evidence-based planning. One of his ongoing projects explores the impact of fare-free public transit on ridership resilience in Boston, drawing attention to how zero-fare policies can increase transit access for historically marginalized populations. Another paper investigated the traffic calming effects of Bus Rapid Transit systems. As a faculty member, Joshi aims to establish a Transit Equity and Safety Lab, the research of which feeding directly into policy conversations, city planning, and community development while training students to approach transportation not just as infrastructure, but as a civil right. As a mentor with the Project for New Mexico Graduates of Color, he helped students develop academic resilience, find research opportunities, and access campus resources. He also served as vice president of the Graduate and Professional Student Association, advocating for student-centered policies at the university level. Future aspirations include offering vertical mentoring, involving undergraduates in funded research, and designing bridge programs for incoming students with nontraditional backgrounds.
