Mohammed Naziru Issahaq earned his bachelor’s degree in mining engineering in 2012 from the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Western Region, Ghana. He is currently a PhD candidate in materials engineering at Purdue, where he has served as a graduate research assistant in a large interdisciplinary group, developing machining-based processes. As a graduate teaching assistant, he designed a course for metallurgical processing of metals. Before entering graduate school, he worked as a mine operations superintendent for MAXMASS LTD. and as a business improvement officer for Gold Fields, both in Ghana. In 2020, he was a corporate partner for CAT Digital through The Data Mine at Purdue, where he developed a smart A1 solution to reproduce thought processes in predicting equipment failures based on telematics data streams. He has served as secretary of the Material Science and Engineering Graduate Students Association at Purdue and is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, ASM International, and American Ceramic Society, among others. He has volunteered at various Purdue engagement events as well as at a local high school for MSEGSA Outreach on Materials Science/Renewable Energy. He has future research interests in the areas of microstructural development and characterization, nanostructured materials, powder metallurgy, additive manufacturing, and lightweight and energy-efficient structural materials.
