From the Dean

In this edition of Impact Online, we are excited to share the latest college-wide news — the course we are charting toward significant growth in our faculty and student body through our Strategic Growth Initiative. We expect to increase faculty by 30 percent over the next five years. Growth of this scale is transformational.

In other stories we share details on one of the many ways that we promote engineering education outside Purdue — our Science Learning through Engineering Design (SLED) project that is preparing teachers to integrate engineering design into middle school science classes and assessing the impact on student learning of science concepts.  We also tell the story of the promising multidisciplinary work that has created a biosensor that can detect blood sugar levels in diabetes patients without a pin prick or a trace of blood. 

And we bid a fond farewell to our beloved alumnus Neil Armstrong. Revered worldwide, he will always hold a special place in the hearts of all Purdue Boilermakers, and especially his fellow Boilermaker engineers, about whom he cared deeply.
