We got the final information about the recruiting fellowship nomination process.  The PhD fellowships this year will be 1-year Ross Fellowships.  The rate for the guaranteed year will be $30,000 - so it will need to be supplemented up to the CCE rate of $33,000.

Nominee eligibility:
             Minimum GPA of 3.50/4.00 (for US institutions)
             Cannot be a current Purdue West Lafayette Graduate Student but can be a current or former Purdue undergrad student
             When considering your nominees, note that the number of offers is expected to be about 3:1 domestic:international.

Selection Criteria:
             Potential of research success based on excellence of academic record and preparedness and strength of recommendation letters
             Potential of success based on evidence in essays, letters, or CV showing resilience, leadership potential, outperforming their environment, or other attributes that contribute to success as a PhD student
             Holistic review of candidate across the above two attributes
             Comments from the school level review (via the rubric in Slate) are strongly encouraged and very helpful to reviewers.

We will accept 3 ranked Ross nominations per area (with 5 from Structures).  If you would like to nominate a student, please complete the attached form and send it to your area graduate rep (feel free to copy me if you would like to) so they can be evaluated within your area. The area ranked lists must be submitted to me by January 16, 2025 at 5:00 pm.  Our nominations will be ranked by the CCE Grad Committee, and our top students will be sent to the College for evaluation there – we can send 25 nominations. Only domestic students will be eligible for the Presidential Excellence PhD Award.

The Knox Fellowship (MSCE fellowship) will be available this year.  We can send one nomination to the College.  You can process the Knox nominations like the Ross.  Submit any nominations within your area. If there is more than one nomination, please rank and send the top area student to me by January 6th (these have an earlier deadline than the Ross nominations).

Requirement for Student Nominees:

·         Be accepted to a residential master's thesis program

·         Be a graduate of an HBCU, PBI, HSI, NASNTI, or have attended a TCU for at least two years.

·         Be a graduate of an accredited U.S. high school.

·         Be able to demonstrate the ability to contribute to a campus community of scholars where diverse perspectives, abilities, backgrounds, and experiences are welcomed, respected, and valued.

·         Demonstrate superior academic achievements and scholarly abilities.

·         Be seeking a thesis degree master’s program.

One year of funding will come from the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars (OGSPS) at $28,000; and the nominating faculty member is responsible for the 2nd year.  The guaranteed year will need to be supplemented to the CCE rate of $30,550.
