Conference rooms
Please remember that conference rooms are shared space and everyone should pick up after they use the room. If you move chairs and tables put them back where they belong. If you are going to move chairs from another room please check the schedule to make sure a meeting is not taking place before you are able to put the chairs back.

Electrical Work

During our PM shutdown scheduled for week of May 4, 2015 Physical Facilities electrical department will be completing major modification to the isolation grounding system in all general laboratories. Outlets in the laboratory with a label starting with "S" will be powered down 8 a.m. Monday, May 4 through 4 p.m. Friday, May 9 or until all modification are completed.

Please move any critical tools requiring power during this shut down from the "S" outlets to the outlets starting with "N".

Lab 1217 Cleanout Complete
The chemical cleanout of Lab 1217 is now complete. Ira Young has set aside the chemicals, and will hold them for two weeks prior to sending them to REM for disposal. If you need one of these chemicals please see Ira within the next two weeks. Also, during the PM shut down week of May 4th, the cleanroom will be cleaned out of old chemicals using this same process.

Preventive Maintenance Shut Down

The Birck Nanotechnology Center will be undergoing a semi-annual preventive maintenance and service shutdown May 4 through May 8, 2015. Air handling systems, exhaust systems, hazardous gas delivery, and monitoring systems will be down beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, May 4 through 4 p.m. Friday, May 8. The BNC staff will be performing appropriate preventive maintenance on the process equipment at this time as well.

All CLEANROOM research work will be suspended until the maintenance activities are completed and all systems are returned to normal. No one will be allowed to enter the cleanroom during this time period.

In addition, the laboratory areas will also be affected by this systems maintenance. As such, all LABORATORY activities that involve exhausted hoods, vacuum systems, and/or toxic gas systems will be down beginning 7 a.m. Monday, May 4 through 4 p.m. Friday, May 8. No chemical work will be allowed during this period.

At the same time Physical Facilities electrical department will be completing major modification to the isolation grounding system in all general laboratories. Outlets in the laboratory with a label starting with "S" will be powered down 8 a.m. Monday, May 4 through 4 p.m. Friday, May 8.

It is anticipated that the building and most process tool maintenance will be completed by the end of the day on Friday, May 9. Please check Coral for equipment status and availability.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during these important preventive maintenance shutdowns.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mark Voorhis.

PROCESS FOR USING E-BEAM LITHOGRAPHY SYSTEM AT OTHER FACILITY

1.) Once you determine which facility you will use and have an estimate of the total project expense you will need to complete a purchase request form. This form will need to list the facility as the vendor, briefly describe the research you will be doing, and provide a total cost estimate for the project. For example, Vendor=Notre Dame and the project will not exceed $800 total. Also, we will need your PI's account information that will be charged for 75% of the facility fees.

2.) Once you have completed the purchase request form you will need to get approval from your PI for the expense. This can be signature or email approval.

3.) Once you have the PI approval and completed form, bring that to the business office for fiscal approval. This can be brought to Lyndsey Estes (estes3 at purdue.edu<mailto:estes3 at purdue.edu>) .

4.) Lyndsey will get fiscal approval and provide the purchase order information to the contact person at the chosen facility.

5.) When you have a date planned to go work at the facility, you will need to enter a travel request in Concur. We are reimbursing 100% of your travel mileage to/from the facility. The account number to enter in Concur is 21010000/4027002000/5200029404.

Workshop
Dear Colleagues,
I just want to attract your attention to two XPS workshop coming in May, 2015. I believe every research group using or planning to use Surface Analysis characterization tools should have at least one trained student.

1) Introduction to XPS workshop - What you should know about X-ray pohotoelectron spectroscopy (https://purdue.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_2aEjFISmtrn3IlD), May 19-20 @ 9:00 AM - BRK 1001.

Course Description: XPS is widely used to determine the chemical composition of a surface (element concentrations, chemical states, lateral and depth distributions, etc.). Nowadays XPS has become a standard technique for the characterization of solid surface. The course will teach how and what information can be provided by XPS.

2) XPS Lite Workshop Introduction to CasaXPS (https://purdue.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_4ON5fLuUSipSyuV), May 26-27 @ 9:00 AM - BRK 1001.

Course Description: XPS is widely used to determine the chemical composition of a surface (element concentrations, chemical states, lateral and depth distributions, etc.). Nowadays XPS has become a standard technique for the characterization of solid surface. however, XPS data require thorough analysis, and dedicated software is used for data analysis. Purdue University has a site license for CasaXPS allowing complete analysis XPS data. The course aims to teach (1) what analysis should be applied to raw XPS data and (2) how this can be done using CasaXPS. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of XPS data using CasaXPS will be discussed in detail as well. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops to follow data analysis using CasaXPS.
