Internships & Co-Ops: Real-World Experience Before You Graduate

Purdue ChE students gain hands-on industry experience through internships and Co-Op — building skills and connections before they graduate.

Internships

Many students complete at least one internship, often over the summer. Compared to Co-Op, internships offer more flexibility — different companies, roles and projects — typically without affecting graduation timeline.

Co-Op Program

Purdue's Co-Op program alternates semesters in class with semesters working full-time for the same employer, building deeper relationships and a competitive salary. Co-Op extends graduation by about a year but is transcript-recorded with an academic certificate upon completion.
