Messer Construction Co., based in Cincinnati, Ohio, recently announced the promotion of CEM graduate Tim Steigerwald to president. In his new role, Steigerwald assumes leadership of the construction company, including responsibility for overall company performance and strategic direction.

“When Messer became employee-owned in 1990, it changed the course of the company because we became focused on creating opportunities for professional growth. As we’ve expanded into new regions, grown our employee base and increased the number of customers we serve, opportunities for our people have followed. Tim is a perfect example of this in action,” said Tom Keckeis, chief executive officer, Messer Inc. and Messer Construction Co.

Steigerwald began working at Messer in 1984, starting as a co-op. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Purdue, he completed his MBA from Xavier University in 1993. In the years that followed, he grew from a project engineer, to a site executive overseeing multiple jobsites, to a region leader in charge of the operational performance and profit and loss for an entire market.

Steigerwald helped grow Messer’s Columbus, Ohio, region, and in 2005, led the opening of the company’s Indianapolis office. In 2010, he assumed company-wide project development leadership, which includes oversight of the business development, sales support, marketing and corporate communication, cost planning and estimating departments, and healthcare division.

An active community volunteer, Steigerwald has served on many nonprofit boards and committees. Currently his board appointments include Cincinnati Museum Center, YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, Regional Economic Initiative (REDI) Cincinnati, and the Mack Family Foundation. He also has been active in the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indianapolis and Columbus, Ronald McDonald House of Cincinnati, and the Hollis Adams Foundation for adults with developmental disabilities.

He has served as board president for the Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety (MICCS) and been on the board for the Indiana Construction Roundtable and Associated Builders & Contractors, where he also served on the National Diversity Committee.

Steigerwald and his wife Chris have been married for 26 years and have five children. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor sports and activities with his family and encouraging the interests of his children. On Saturday mornings, he can typically be found on a grassy soccer field, somewhere in the Midwest, cheering on his son at a soccer game.
