| AISC Scholarships and Internships | ||||||
Be sure to let your students know about these great opportunities for internships for Summer 2012 and 2012-13 scholarships. AISC is now accepting applications from students enrolled in structural, architectural, or civil engineering programs for a full-time internship position at AISC's headquarters in downtown Chicago for the summer of 2012. Qualified applicants will be in, at least, the third year of their curriculum and will have completed at least one course in structural steel design. AISC interns support the AISC Engineering and Research Department in developing technical resources for structural steel design. Interested students should submit their resumes, including a list of related coursework, by March 2, 2012 to hr@aisc.org. Juniors, Seniors and Masters students can apply for scholarships made available by the AISC Education Foundation and various structural steel associations. Go to www.aisc.org/scholarships for more information, the application, and a list of 2011-2012 winners. The deadline is May 1, 2012. |

| Try out the AISC Shapes Database | ||||||
| Use SteelWise articles to brush up on your (and your students') steel know-how.
The SteelWise feature in Modern Steel Construction provides practical knowledge on a number of topics, ranging from stability analysis, to how choice of corrosion protection affects connection design, to practical considerations for expansion joints in buildings. A February 2012 article, "Introducing the AISC Shapes Database V14.0," gives background on and helpful hints for using this free online resource. The article is the first installment in a three-part series on new companion materials for the 14th edition AISC Manual. |
