The Rapid Design of Systems Laboratory (RDSL) was founded by Prof. Michael Grant in 2012 within the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University to advance the state-of-the-art in the design and performance characterization of hypersonic systems. The lab consists of graduate and undergraduate students with an interest in multidisciplinary design optimization, advanced computing techniques, trajectory optimization, hypersonic aerodynamics, and other related disciplines.
The world-class research in the laboratory identifies new mission architectures and concepts to support human and robotic exploration as well as strategic systems to support national defense. The projects in the lab rely on advanced, highly parallel computer simulations supported by the Rosen Center for Advanced Computing at Purdue. Members of the lab have developed new multidisciplinary design methodologies and tools to support next-generation hypersonic missions.
