LaPorte County Ground Water
Ground water availability is good throughout most of LaPorte County. 68% of the population in LaPorte County relies on ground water for drinking, washing, and other needs. The flow of ground water generally reflects the overlying topography. Ground water north of the Valparaiso moraine generally flows north toward Lake Michigan, while ground water in the southern part of the county generally flows south or west. Ground water recharge varies widely from nearly 11 inches per year in the Calumet Plain to about 3 inches per year in the Valparaiso Moraine.
