This is a flume structure for stabilizing the channel. The water flows through the flume instead of dropping as in the previous drop structure. The primary advantage of a flume over a drop structure is that they can be used with large elevation drops. Typically drop structures are limited to five or six feet of drop, while flumes can be used to drop water much larger distances. Flumes can also be less expensive than drop structures to build.
