Dr. Dennis R. Buckmaster is a
Professor in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue University. He
served as Assistant Dean and Associate Director of Academic Programs in the
Purdue College of Agriculture from 2013 to 2018. In 2017 he became a Dean's Fellow for
Digital Agriculture. He earned a B.S.
in Agricultural Engineering from Purdue University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees
in Agricultural Engineering from Michigan State University. Dr. Buckmaster teaches ASM 105, Computations and Communications in ASM, ASM 421, Senior Seminar, and a special topics course regarding Ag Tech & Innovation. He has taught ASM 345, Engines and Power Trains, ASM 591 Grain Facilities, ASM 59100 Effective Management, and ABE 545, Design of Off-Highway Vehicles. His research focuses on forage and biomass systems with particular focus on harvest technologies as they affect storage, transportation, and subsequent utilization. In collaboration with animal scientists he is improving distiller’s grains storage and handling. New research is ongoing in applications of mobile computing and computational technologies specifically for agriculture with focus on data management for improved decision making. Some of those efforts are directed toward field cropping systems and machinery; the other efforts are oriented toward water quality. For 17 years prior to coming to Purdue as an Associate Professor, Dr. Buckmaster was a faculty member at Penn State University . During this time, he researched hay and silage harvest and storage, total mixed ration delivery systems, and horticultural mechanization. He taught courses including Off-Road Power Units, Design of Fluid Power Systems, Selection and Management of Agricultural Machinery, and Engineering Principles of Agricultural Machines. He advised students in Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural and Biological Engineering and coordinated the ASM program. Dr. Buckmaster is a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, the American Forage and the Grassland Council, Fluid Power Society; he is a registered professional engineer and certified hydraulic specialist. |
