Bio

Prof. Hanquist is an Assistant Professor in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University. Prior to joining Purdue, he was an Assistant Professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arizona and a founding faculty member of the Arizona Research Center for Hypersonics. His research group is active in the development and application of physical models and computational methods for the simulation of complex phenomena such as high-temperature flows, aerothermodynamics, shape-optimization, and material response experienced during hypersonic and reentry flows. He has research experiences at NASA Ames Research Center and the Air Force Research Laboratory (Summer Faculty Fellowship) in the areas of aerothermodynamics and aero-optics and has teaching interests in the area of fluid mechanics, computational methods, and aerothermodynamics. Since 2014, he has had over 13 journal publications and over 20 conference papers in the area of hypersonics and reentry physics; two of which received 2019's Editor's Choice in the area of Plasma Physics and a Featured Article for Physics of Fluids, and another received the 2020 AIAA Plasmadynamics and Lasers Best Paper Award. Dr. Hanquist is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the AIAA Thermophysics Technical Committee, and the American Physical Society. He was also awarded the 2025 Office of Naval Research and Air Force Office of Scientific Research's Young Investigator Awards.
