Essentially, the aviation pioneer inspired development and growth, especially for women, in aerospace engineering fields. That’s the goal of the first symposium at Purdue named in her honor.

The Amelia Earhart Summit focuses on empowering students in aerospace engineering by providing an opportunity to learn more about career paths in the industry and academia, and expand their professional network.

Undergraduate and graduate students present their research and gain feedback from experts in academia and the Industrial Advisory Council (IAC); network with professionals from the industry and government; learn about graduate school and academic careers; attend stimulating keynote talks scheduled throughout the day; and get involved in student organizations.

The summit is organized by the student organizations Purdue Women In Aerospace (WIA) and AAE Graduate Women’s Gatherings (GWG) in collaboration with the University of Michigan’s Women in Aeronautics and Astronautics.

The registration deadline to attend the banquet is September 21 and the Summit September 26. Visit 2019 Amelia Earhart Aerospace Summit for more information.

“You can do anything you decide to do,” said Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Earhart was a visiting faculty member and technical adviser in Purdue’s aeronautics department in the mid-1930s. “You can act to change and control your life and the procedure. The process is its own reward,” she said.
