The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) will conduct a regional meeting March 24-26, 2024, at the Purdue Union on the campus of Purdue University West Lafayette. You are cordially invited to attend. Registration is free but required.

The NAE regional meeting will focus on building a dialogue for excellence in manufacturing and operations, especially at the "Crossroads of America," in order to deliver a resilient, secure, and sustainable U.S. supply chain. Discussion will center on integrated digital, physical, and sustainable manufacturing for critical industrial sectors including defense and aerospace, transportation and logistics, semiconductor and microelectronics, agriculture and food, and biomedical for health care.

Key leaders in national and regional business, academia, and government, including academy members, will discuss ways to build bridges to a resilient, secure, and sustainable supply chain in this region that will drive manufacturing in America.

This NAE regional meeting will discuss excellence in digital, physical, and sustainable manufacturing and operations in critical industrial sectors, including defense and aerospace, transportation and logistics, semiconductor and microelectronics, agriculture and food, and biomedical for healthcare. It will bring together regional and national leaders to deliberate on how to deliver resilient, secure, and sustainable supply chains in the region for the national economy and quality of life. It is part of Purdue's national initiative, eXcellence in Manufacturing and Operations, which was successfully launched in Washington D.C. at NASEM on Nov. 6, 2023.

The state of Indiana and the Midwest region, referred to as the Crossroads of America, have more than a century of experience in leading and practicing excellence in manufacturing and operations as an economic engine for the region and the nation. Indiana has the highest concentration of manufacturing jobs in the nation. Twenty-five percent of Indiana's economic output is based on manufacturing, and hosts over 9,000 manufacturing operations, exporting $34.8 billion in manufactured goods. Indiana and its neighboring states are America's vanguard for advanced manufacturing.

Global business leaders such as Cummins, Caterpillar, John Deere, Eli Lilly, Northrop Grumman Space Systems, the Big Three automakers, and others--including Honda, Subaru, Intel, SkyWater, Wabash National, Boeing, Argonne National Laboratory, NSWC Crane, TARDEC, and many more large, mid-, and small-size enterprises of national consequence have headquarters, manufacturing, and operations at the crossroads of the nation.

The meeting will host a series of key signature events and themes, including student competitions, equitable and frugal engineering, global vs. American supply chain, and technical manufacturing and operations areas- transportation, semiconductor, health care, defense, aerospace, agriculture, and food.
