The Challenge

The Friends of Amateur Rocketry (FAR) and the Mars Society challenged university students to design, build, and launch rockets to 45,000 feet using LOX/CH4 fuel. The winning team will win a grand prize of $100,000. The Purdue Space Program is building BALR to win this launch contest, taking place on May 5, 2018 in the Mojave Desert. Our program will take what we learn from this contest and apply it not only to our own future projects, but also make our information public to the larger aerospace community.
