FAQs
How do I become a Purdue Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student?
Transitioning to mechanical engineering at Purdue follows the same process as every other discipline. Students must complete their First Year Engineering (FYE) curriculum, making sure to meet all FYE requirements. A minimum GPA and EAI (Engineering Admissions Index) of 3.2 will guarantee students get into their first choice major. Students may also be able to follow the CODO (Change of Degree Objective) to transfer into mechanical engineering from another major.
What resources are available to help with academics in Mechanical Engineering?
There are many resources available to help students with their academics! There are free resources for tutoring through many organizations, including Pi Tau Sigma and WiME. There are also tutorial rooms located on the second floor of the Mechanical Engineering building, staffed with TAs every weekday for every ME core class.
What opportunities does Mechanical Engineering offer outside of academics?
Mechanical Engineering students have a wide variety of opportunities at Purdue. GRIT (Global, Research, Industry, and Teamworking) experiences are encouraged for all students. During weekdays, company recruiters and representatives can be found in the atrium of the Mechanical Engineering building to network with students looking for industry experiences. There are many mechanical engineering research projects being conducted where students can gain research experience. There are also numerous opportunities to study abroad during students' mechanical engineering experience as well.
