Curriculum

Credit hours: 2

Course Reader: Relevant papers, instructions, and lectures will be posted on the course blackboard.

Course Objectives: The first 8 weeks of the course focuses on bringing all students to a level beyond their existing capabilities to use sensors, actuators, micro-controllers and program electro-mechanical devices -robots being a prime example. The last 8 weeks of the course would require physical design and prototyping through the introduction of final project. This class has the objective to enhance students knowledge on automation, and robotic platforms through introducing new tech-tools to develop next generation of smart factories. As these skills would be expected of every engineer in the rapidly changing future of work, we want to instill in you the confidence to approach such problems throughout the rest of your curriculum and into your senior projects. The lectures and lab sessions will directly contribute to the final project while inspiring you to enjoy and have fun in this class while you learn through work!

Thus, through this course, you will:

1. Learn fundamentals of electronics and circuit design

2. Learn about sensors, actuators and micro-controllers

3. Micro-controller Programming
4. Bluetooth, WiFi and Web-Control of Smart Devices
5. CAD Design and Prototyping; Laser Cutter

6. Learn about IoT Platforms
